Stop the cowboy coding!
For our next meetup topic we thought we would dive into using version control with WordPress. After discussing WordPress development with many Durban WordPresses we realised that knowledge needed to be shared in this area, urgently!
There is no better person to share this than Chris Muller (Tech Lead at Advantage Learn and co-founder of Pango). Chris has spent month tweaking and refining his teams development flow and will be overviewing this to the Durban WordPress community.
Although this seems like it is only for developers it certainly isn’t. Every WordPress user and developer needs to know the minimum standards of version control. i.e What to expect from your developer and how it works.
In this meet up Chris will be walking us through using version control with WordPress. A critical pairing!
A bit about Chris:
Chris was born and bred in Durban, South Africa, but currently lives in the startup and tech hub of South Africa – Cape Town. After completing his Matric at Glenwood High School he recognised a strong proficiency in Mathematics. He went on to complete a BSc in Applied Maths and Economics followed by an Honours in Economics, both at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. After a gap year traveling and snowboarding in South Lake Tahoe (USA) he returned to his studies and completed a Masters in Economics, also at UKZN.
While at University, Chris enjoyed canoeing and running and was Chairman of the UKZN Canoe Club for around 5 years; organising inter-university tours, very successful fundraising events and club races. Apart from competing in countless races he was also awarded Full Blue for representing South Africa at the World University Canoe Sprint Championships in Serbia in 2008.
Chris’s interest in technology started in high school coming top of the grade in Computer Studies. However, over the next few years he only dabbled lightly into PHP and html. After some uncertainty of his career path into Economics Chris realised a synergy between his self-starting, dynamic personality and the opportunities at a young startup company – Advantage Learn. Chris joined Advantage Learn in early 2014 and quickly discovered a passion for web development and technology. In 2015, Chris was appointed Director of Innovation & Technology at Advantage Learn.
While at Advantage Learn, Chris has been pivotal to the company’s launch and growth into the online space, particularly the flagship website AdvantageLearn.com. At the same time Chris has grown in leaps and bounds as a developer and has realised that his career aspirations lie within the tech and entrepreneurial space.
Apart from coding, Chris is passionate about trail/road running, traveling, adventure, continuous learning and meeting people. He has also published a book with his brother, Luke, called Drink This In.
